I: Good morning
skater Tonya Harding is best remembered in the sports world because in 1994 her former husband hired a godmother to her knees sticks attacked his bitter rival, Nancy Kerrigan during a practice session at the North American Championship Figure Skating. Kerrigan had to withdraw from the competition (which Harding won), but then recovered, attended the Lillehammer Olympics, and won the silver medal (see Column Lithic 8/ago/09 ). The mastermind of the attack maintained its place in the Olympic team, despite his conviction (later confessed) and was eighth in those games. However, few remember that, years before that assault, Tonya Harding was the second skater in history who managed to run a triple axel, the jump of greater technical complexity and physical demands that are in the repertoire of the game (except the Quad Salchow , which has only been achieved by Japan's Miki Ando.) All this was pointed out now that the final figure skating at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver-anti-Mao Asada of Japan became only the fifth woman to successfully land a triple Axel in international competition since the simple version this jump was invented in 1882.
