I: Good morning
On Monday we phoned my mother, from Montevideo, to tell us that day (which was particularly hot, in the worst days of summer past ) of the blue and cloudless sky, heard a series of booms, similar to a thunderstorm, causing curiosity first, and fear then because the thunder was so intense that in some areas of the city there were earthquakes, and the promenade several businesses reported broken glass as a result of vibration caused by the phenomenon. The Uruguayan authorities could not manage to give a satisfactory explanation of the incident, and until that is handled as the most likely guess what has been called skyquakes . The mysterious words today are: thunder, atmosphere, Mach 1.
II: noises
When a plane breaks the sound barrier, ie flies to more than 343 m / s, or 1.236 km/h- there is a loud pop (and a peculiar conical cloud condensation around the unit) resulting from compression of sound waves. Interestingly, the pilot did not get to hear the explosion (even the engine of his own plane) because the two sounds are left behind as you move faster than the sound itself, but for an observer on the ground, the outbreak can be very spectacular. Here in Colima, where the heat rages, people say "will shake, so heat, safety pin to be shaking." The Uruguayans have no such superstition (there are not afraid), but there are scientists who attributed the phenomenon on Monday and summer temperatures and the "reaction caused by compressed gases in the atmosphere." That is the explanation more "serious" what about the origin of the skyquakes, a phenomenon that no more scientific information. With what happened in the Rio de la Plata on Monday came to light that have already been registered skyquakes in other parts of the world, notably in the United States, England and Australia, and that no record of atmospheric events from the 1850, although it remains a mystery what is its origin.
For its part, the weather station MetSul , Brazil, found that rather it was a meteor that exploded in the air, a phenomenon that is registered with relative frequency. The most famous case is that of Tunguska in the now Republic of Buryatia (Siberia, pa to be located): 30 June 1908, a meteorite or piece of comet entered the atmosphere and broke apart before landfall , leaving houses and toppled trees in an area equivalent to almost half of the state of Colima as a result of the shock wave that followed the explosion (See Column Lithic 15/Jul/08 ).
In a more recent and familiar, a few days ago a piece of Russian satellite Cosmos 2421 -by August 2008 had been disrupted in 426 pieces floating in space, fell between Puebla and Hidalgo, Mexico. The Russians say not true that they control their space junk, but who knows. The fact is that both Mexico and Uruguay the heavens go uneasy, and not only the earth is shaken. The mother is reported to be stable, fortunately.
